Tell us more about your piece! What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

I struggle with guilt. Maybe it’s my Catholic upbringing. Maybe it’s my human nature. Maybe it’s my personal history of sin. It’s a theme that appears in much of my writing. I have also struggled with what it means to be a woman, and how women have been demonized since the dawn of time. I think of Eve, blamed for original sin. Even Mary Magdalene, considered a saint, was said to have been a whore before repenting.

How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

Honestly, this was one of my most vulnerable pieces, and I was concerned about how people would judge me personally. But I felt I had to share it. Given the current political environment and the debate surrounding women’s reproductive rights, the poem still feels like something to share.

Is there a specific message you would like readers to take away from reading this piece?

I don’t know that I am sending a specific message. Instead, I’m baring my frustrated feminine soul and hoping there are people out there who feel and understand me.

What else would you like to tell readers about your writing? (Doesn’t have to refer only to your BCC piece)

My writing is often dark and sad. But it’s also sarcastic and funny. And weird. Poetry, flash fiction, short stories, it wanders here and there. I even had a few horror pieces published.

Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)
