Bird Woman - Myra Dutton

The door is invisible and yet it hides me.

I am the bird woman from the other side,

gone aloft centuries ago

a hologram, a projection

a mirrored reflection

a mystery that continues to unfold.

I need people with real hands and feet

to feed the birds for me

to nurture the giant, the small

the powerful, the weak, the seed eaters

and flesh eaters. Feed them all for me.

I am here

the bird woman from the other side

a flying cloud that never touches ground

a rescuer of the winged fallen.

Harbor the refugees cast from their nests

until they are strong enough to fly.

Protect the wee ones, left behind

who long for their missing mothers.

Keepers of the sky and of the earth

Messengers of dawn and twilight

let the wind rise through their wings

and carry them back to their beloved.

I need people with real hands and feet

to feed the birds for me

to feed them all, to love each one

and kindly set them free.
